The New Citizen Kane has become one of my favorite artists over the last couple of years, so I was happy to see a new EP arrive. “FREE to FEEL” is another step forward and I’m proud to see how much his music has grown with each release.
This release is more confident than some of his earlier work. The production is polished without losing the energy that makes his sound enjoyable. There is a strong electronic side, but the songs still give the melodies and vocals enough room to stay at the center. “DREAM logic” opens things up while “metalLIC” brings a burst of energy. “into My heart” caught my attention, especially for its chorus.
I like that the EP has something to say. With these songs, Kane is asking listeners to question what they believe, trust their instincts and give themselves permission to move forward instead of staying stuck in the same place. It gives the music a little more weight without turning it into a deep lecture. His vocal performance is one of the things I always remember and his presence is impressive again here. I really loved the melodies, the choruses and the energy, but I noticed how much care went into the sound design and production.
This EP is another strong release from an artist who keeps improving. I’m proud of how far The New Citizen Kane has come and I’d love to hear much more from him this year.
