Bailey Bomar has only just started her career and with her second single, “Not Me” she is already giving me a reason to keep an eye on where her music goes. There is something confident about the way she brings alt-pop together with 80s new wave touches, while still keeping the song easy to listen to.
The song carries a lot of meaning, built around breaking away from other people’s expectations and choosing your own path. That idea comes through without getting in the way of the music. The track is heavy in places with synths and guitars pushing it forward, and I really liked the atmosphere created around them. The melodies are strong and memorable, especially when the vocal hook comes in. The chorus is a big part of why the song sticks in my head.
Bailey also gives a strong performance here. You can hear the passion behind what she is doing, but the song never loses its shape. The lyrics and melodies are memorable, while the production and mixing keep everything clear. The instrumentation and sound design are polished and made with care.
For a second single, this is a strong step. Bailey has real talent and I like that her music already sounds carefully made while still being easy to connect with. I’m happy I found her this early, because this single leaves me wanting to hear what she does next. She is definitely an artist to watch and I think she has so much ahead.
