Bubblegum Cistern is a duo that puts a lot of passion and energy into their new album “SYZYGY”. From Knoxville, the two-piece brings a mix of rock, pop, indie and synth sounds without making the record feel stuck in one place. Each song has its own direction which kept me interested all the way through. I really loved the variety in their music.
The production is polished and professional while the mixing gives the instruments enough room to work together. I liked the guitars and drums with the instrumentation giving the album so many good moments. The vocal melodies are strong and memorable and I liked the vocals here more with every listen. The lyrics are memorable and some of the choruses could stay in your head for days.
I had the album playing through my home speakers and while driving and it worked just as well in both places. There is an atmosphere running through the album, but the variety keeps the energy moving. You can hear the care behind the music, especially in the way the duo handles the production and builds each track.
I also liked that the album can shift its mood without losing its personality. It makes for an easy listen, but there is enough going on to make me want to play it again. For me, “SYZYGY” is an amazing listen and a great album for these summer days. I liked the energy, the melodies and the passion behind it and I can hear myself coming back to this one.
