Can you imagine I just had one of the best 16-track listening sessions I’ve had in a long time? I kept going back to a few songs because On Mercury made this album hard to leave behind. His voice and the way he carries every track pulled me in and that stayed with me until the final song.
“Golden Age” is one of those albums that keeps changing as it plays. Every track has its unique place but together they create an enjoyable ride. I loved the melodies and the lyrics were easily my favorite part of the album. The songwriting here tells stories about love, hope, regret and moving forward, giving each song something worth paying attention to beyond the music itself.
The artist puts a lot of care into every part of this release and it shows. The production is soli, while the mixing and mastering sound clean. The instrumentation is full without becoming too busy and the violin on a couple of songs plus the harmonica on another add small touches that fit perfectly.
You can hear that this music comes from real passion rather than chasing trends. That’s probably why I kept replaying several tracks instead of rushing to the next album. There is something honest about the writing that made me want to stay with it a little longer. I had a great time with this release. It’s packed with memorable moments and left me looking forward to hearing whatever On Mercury decides to release next.
