“don’t wannabe a wannabe” is one of my latest discoveries. AEvina leans into a house groove here, but keeps it tied to a pop melody that’s easy to hold onto. I played this track in the car first and it was an amazing idea. That hook “I don’t wannabe a wannabe” got stuck in my head for days now. I always caught myself saying it without even playing the song.
The production is professional and has a great foundation. I really like how every sound was placed with care. From the beat hitting at the right moments to the way the instrumental builds around the vocal. It’s clean, but not empty. There’s energy in it that keeps things moving.
The lyrics touch on that weird pressure of being seen and trying to fit into something you’re not. That tension comes through in a simple way, nothing overdone. Her vocal delivery carries it well and matches the tone of the track.
I kept going back to it, especially on short drives. It works in that setting. This is one of those songs that earns replays without asking for them. AEvina is definitely going on my favorites list for this year!
