Duane Hoover returns with “Wayward Path” an amazing blend of covers and original songs that highlights his deep love for classic rock while showcasing his own musical voice. The album is filled with character, energy and heart. While the covers like “Sorrow” and “Jennifer Juniper” are reimagined with powerful guitar work and a theatrical flair, it’s the original songs that shine brightest. Tracks like “Wayward Path”, “It’s a Different World” and “Come On” carry a vibrant punk-meets-Brit-pop spirit, driven by Hoover’s rich and commanding vocals and catchy melodies.
The production is clean, the performances are alive and there’s a consistent thread of passion running through the entire project. As I mentioned when I reviewed “All Over Again” Duane Hoover knows how to deliver music that’s both nostalgic and fresh. Honestly, this record is one of the best albums I’ve heard recently. It’s powerful, varied and easy to love. It’s a real gem from a truly talented artist.
