Falling in love with Sarah Wendlandt’s voice happened much faster than I ever imagined. Her tone pulled me in right away and I enjoyed every second of her singing and the melodies of her new single “Oh June”. She has one of those rare voices you randomly discover while skipping through songs on Spotify and suddenly you stop searching because you have found something worth staying with.
This song is a duet between Sarah Wendlandt and Franzi Berg and they work together so well. Their voices blend perfectly and give the song a warm and honest character. The chorus is captivating and the acoustic guitar behind the vocals sits perfectly in the mix. Every instrument has its place, the banjo adds a lovely touch and the production is polished without taking attention away from the songwriting.
The lyrics are about two friends encouraging each other to keep moving forward and trust their own path. It is a simple idea, but it connects because of the way they deliver it. I ended up spending a few hours listening to more of Sarah’s music because I enjoyed her writing and melodies that much. Even my whole family loved her voice which almost never happens when I’m reviewing new releases.
Artists like this do not come around every day and finding “Oh June” turned into one of my favorite discoveries in a while. I’ll gladly keep following Sarah Wendlandt and Franzi Berg because I already know I’ll be excited to write about whatever comes next.
