Ezekiel Gauthier – Teenage Dark Love

Ezekiel Gauthier is a recent find for me, a French artist who clearly cares about every sound he puts out. “Teenage Dark Love” is a short EP but it’s the kind you sit with from start to finish without skipping.

The record opens with the title track where his voice comes in smooth and steady. Riding a melody that sticks after it ends. The backing track stays light. Just enough to hold the rhythm in place.

“Bones and All” shifts things into a darker space. The vocal mix stands out here, sitting right inside the beat while everything around it is controlled and clean. There’s something haunting in how he builds the mood and I like that. “Bliss and Kiss” closes the EP with a similar style, but small changes in the sound and delivery keep it from repeating itself. I liked that consistency without it getting boring.

He’s working in a dark pop lane with electronic touches and it’s clear he’s figuring out his own style. There’s care in how everything is put together. I’ve been playing this EP a few times now, usually late at night with headphones on and it keeps pulling me back in. This is a strong release and I’m excited to hear where he goes next. One I’ll keep coming back!
