PJD – On New Horizons

PJD is back with a new single “On New Horizons” and it leans straight into that classic rock space without trying to modernize anything.

The first thing that hit me was how unpolished and raw it sounds and I mean that in a good way. It doesn’t chase perfection. The guitars come in with that slightly rough edge, like something recorded with the amps pushed just a bit too far. It reminds me of older records where the small imperfections actually made the track stick.

There’s a steady groove running through it, nothing complicated, just solid playing. The instrumentation does a lot of the talking. You can tell this is someone who understands how to build a track from the ground up. Each part was placed there for a reason.

His voice carries that same roughness. It’s not overly refined and that works here. The delivery stays direct. Like he’s more focused on getting the message across than showing off. That kind of technique fits the song’s idea always looking ahead, hoping the next step brings something better, even if that’s not guaranteed.

I also liked how simple everything is. No extra layers. No unnecessary shifts. It sticks to its lane and lets the core idea breathe. That’s harder to do than it sounds. This is an independent artist and he handled everything himself. From writing to production which makes the whole thing land differently. It sounds like one person following their own direction which gives it more character.

After listening to this record, I found myself really enjoying the honesty in it. It’s just raw, straightforward and driven by someone who clearly cares about what they’re making. This is the kind of track you go back to when you want something real without all the extra polish.
