Can’t wait for you all to listen to this one. I can almost guarantee you haven’t heard something similar. I had this song looping while I was doing random stuff around the house before deciding to sit down and write about it.
“I Want It More Than You” leans into a simple idea and just runs with it. The hook is the main thing. You hear it once and it kind of hangs around whether you want it to or not. I found myself replaying it without really thinking which says a lot. He really knows what he’s doing.
Mick J. Clark’s delivery plays a big part in that. His voice rich and easy to sit with for a few hours without getting tired of it. He lets the song move at its own pace. The instrumental is not too loud, not buried either. Everything has its place. You can actually hear what’s going on without anything fighting for attention. The tone stays consistent the whole way through, which helps the chorus land better when it comes back around. And that chorus… yeah, that’s the part that does the heavy lifting. It sticks.
I’ve heard Mick J. Clark before, so this didn’t come out of nowhere for me. He’s always had a way of keeping things straightforward but still interesting. You can tell he puts time into how the lyrics and melody line up. It all connects in a way that makes sense when you’re listening.
I like how direct this song is. Just a catchy melody, solid writing and a clear idea carried all the way through. I’ve already gone back to it a few times and I’ll probably keep doing that. I’m definitely curious to hear what else he drops this year.
