Boey – The False Prince

I saw the name Boey and already had a feeling this wasn’t going to be a quick listen. Some artists just give that impression before you even press play. This one did and I was right.

“The False Prince” turned into a full sit-down moment for me. Headphones on and no skipping around. It really plays like you’re stepping into his head for a while, not just hearing songs lined up. I kept noticing how simple everything is on the surface. mostly acoustic and not overloaded and that choice actually makes it easier to stay locked into his voice and the words.

The first two tracks, “When Will It End?” and “We’ve Got It All” were enough. I didn’t need convincing after that. I saved the album right there. There’s something direct about his writing. It doesn’t try to dress things up too much and that honesty carries the early part of the record.

“Disease” pulled me in a different direction. The sound shifts a bit and the way the melody moves sticks with you longer than expected. I replayed that one once before moving on. It just sits differently. Then “What Am I Doing With My Life?” the title alone already says a lot. The writing here is sharp, and if you actually follow the lines, it hits in a deep way. It’s not loud, not dramatic, just… there.

“Civilisation” caught me off guard. There’s a shadow hanging over it, almost uneasy, and it builds this atmosphere that doesn’t really leave once the song ends. That one stayed with me longer than I thought it would. “Little Crush” flips things for a bit. Lighter, more playful, catchy in a way that feels easy. I didn’t expect that shift, but it works.

13 tracks in and it never felt like filler. That’s rare. You can tell he paid attention to all of it, not just the opening run. His voice carries the whole thing, and the writing keeps it grounded. I’ll be honest, I want more from him on my blog. This one stuck around after it ended and that’s usually my sign.
