Alfresco Love Sounds – Wishful Thinking

I hadn’t heard of this British band Alfresco Love Sounds before last night. So I went into their album Pigeon Synergy with no expectations. I’ll be honest, they didn’t disappoint me. I let the whole thing play through once, then came back this morning and sat a bit longer with “Wishful Thinking”. That one really stuck and I love it.

The song opens in a calm way with that soft and dreamy vocal delivery that kind of pulls you into their space right away. It’s not complicated at all, it just starts and you’re in it. It kind of sets the tone right away. I like that approach. It feels honest.

The instrumental side is pretty simple, but it works. The instruments are not doing anything flashy, they just keep moving in a way that really holds your focus. There’s a great energy that builds little by little, and I found myself getting more into it as it went on. It’s the kind of track that grows on you while it’s playing.

You can tell there’s some real thought and creative ideas behind the production. The producer choices are smart and surprising. This band’s vocalist has a strong presence and his delivery is confident and impressive. His voice fits the sound and just sits right with the rest of the band. Speaking of that, the chemistry between them is real. Like they actually enjoy playing together, and that makes a difference.

The last minute is probably my favorite part. It shifts into a more instrumental section and that’s where the song really opens up. The track’s under three minutes, but that ending makes it feel bigger than it is. I didn’t expect to spend this much time thinking about a band I just found, but here we are. I’ll definitely go back to this album again and keep an eye on what they do next.
