Cries of Redemption – What Lies Beneath (feat. Martina Questa)

I discovered this amazing artist Cries of Redemption (Ed Silva) by accident a few days ago and his new track kind of pulled me in without much warning. “What Lies Beneath” feat. Martina Questa runs a little over 4 minutes, but it’s not rushed or padded. It actually split into two parts.

The first half is quieter and almost like it’s holding something back. The instruments stay in the background while Martina carries it. Her voice does most of the work here and it’s strong and emotional. There’s a steady and controlled delivery that makes the lyrics land in a real way. I kept focusing on how she stretches some lines just enough to make them stick in your head.

Around the middle, everything opens up. The bass gets heavier, drums hit harder, and the guitars steps forward. That’s also where the hard screaming vocals come in and the whole track shifts into something bigger. It’s not messy at all because the production keeps it tight, even when it gets loud.

The chorus is the part that stayed with me the most. I found myself replaying it the next morning. It’s powerful and easy to remember. Same with the melodies overall. They don’t wander off, they stay locked in your head longer than you expect.

There’s a gothic metal edge to all of this, but the sound is not stuck in one lane. Ed’s writing is honest and his production ideas are creative and smart. I just discovered this artist and this track made me a fan in no time. It’s the kind of song I’ll probably go back to again every night.
