I just finished writing about 50mething’s last single “Back Where We Began” and I remember thinking I had him figured out. Same mood, same style, same kind of feeling. I wasn’t expecting a shift this soon, if I’m being honest. “Date Night Tonight” started playing, and… that thought didn’t last long.
This one leans into a more electronic pop sound and it actually surprised me how comfortable it feels on him. The beat has a bit more bounce. a bit more shine to it. but it still keeps things grounded. It’s just enough to give it a different color compared to his previous track.
The lyrics are a different vibe too. There’s a playful side here that I didn’t really get before. He’s touching on modern dating. especially how everything’s moved online and you can tell it comes from actually thinking about it, not just throwing out random lines.
The production is creative and professional. I’ve got to say, this might be my favorite from him so far. Knowing this comes out of his home setup makes it even better. The track sounds clean. well put together, but still personal. It doesn’t lose that handmade feel.
And that’s still the main reason I keep coming back to him. The honesty. Even when the sound changes, that part stays. I said before I didn’t expect much difference between releases, but this proved me wrong in a good way. He’s not leaving my playlist anytime soon.
