I didn’t go into this one expecting anything new from 50mething, but that’s kind of the point now. I’ve written about him before and at this stage I already know what I’m coming back for. “Back Where We Began” just fits right into that space.
The first thing that hit me this time was how direct everything is. No extra layers, no trying to dress things up. The instrumental is kept simple and that’s the secret here. It just sits there and lets the vocals speak without getting in the way. I like that a lot because it gives more room for his voice and honest lyrics to land properly.
The lyrics are honest in a way that’s hard to fake. That’s what this sounds like. The vocal melodies are captivating and mesh perfectly with the lyrics and overall sound. What I really like about this artist and it keeps showing up every time is the emotion and the honesty he brings. That’s probably why I keep coming back and why this isn’t the last time I’ll be writing about him here.
The song is warm and touching and you can feel it while you’re listening. His delivery plays a big part in that. It pulls you in a few seconds and before you know it, the song’s over. I’ve got a few more of his tracks lined up to write about soon. So yeah, stay tuned. 50mething is becoming one of those artists I keep around in my playlist without even thinking twice.
