Kelsie Kimberlin just released her new single “Lady Liberty”. A song that I was waiting for. It’s real and has a strong message behind it. After spending most of my evening with this song. I keep going back to one part… the chorus.
The chorus here doesn’t take long to arrive and when it does, it hits with force. Kelsie has one of my favorite voices in the indie scene. It’s strong and her lyrics are direct and just real. She’s not being subtle here. The song speaks directly about how America is under attack from authoritarian forces that want to undermine its democracy and that message sits at the center of everything. It’s clear and it’s meant to be heard.
The writing is focused. She keeps bringing it back to our country, what it stands for and what’s at risk. That’s what made the song stick with me more than anything else. It’s not just something you hear once and forget.
The production goes for a bigger sound and it works smoothly. The drums and backing elements give the track a strong push and they support her voice in a great way. There’s a darker tone across the song but it matches the message she’s delivering.
I’ve written about her music before, so I’m familiar with her style, but this one is different. It’s more serious and more grounded in real issues. She sounds fully committed to what she’s saying. I like this direction a lot. It’s honest and we really need it in today’s music scene. I’ll definitely keep following her and I’m really hoping this leads to a full project or at least an EP soon.
