Moonroof – Massachusetts

I’ve been keeping up with this band Moonroof for a while now, so this wasn’t a random listen for me. It was more like checking in on a band I already trust a lot. I remember writing about them last year and somehow they’ve kept that same spark without repeating themselves.

Their new single “Massachusetts” is like them leaning more into energy this time. Not messy, not all over the place. It’s just tighter and more driven. The drums kick things forward right away and the guitars don’t hang back either. There’s a push to it that made me turn the volume up without thinking about it.

The band sounds connected, like everyone’s playing with the same idea in mind. No one is trying to steal the moment. The guitar lines carry a lot of the mood and the drums keep it moving in a way that doesn’t get tiring.

The vocals sit right on top of all that. There’s a catchiness to how the lines are delivered, especially when it hits the chorus. That part stuck with me after the song ended. I caught myself replaying it in my head later which doesn’t always happen. There are also small details in the background and I’m a person who really loves and notices the small details in music.

I think what keeps me coming back to Moonroof is that they don’t feel stuck. Each release sounds like they’re moving forward, even if it’s in small steps. Their new single just adds to that for me. I’ve already played it a few times and I’ll probably keep it in rotation for a while.
