Liyah Bey – Abused

Liyah Bey just landed on my radar with her new single “Abused”. It’s one of the best records I’ve heard in months. I played the song while sitting on the edge of my bed, not really planning to focus on it… but I didn’t end up skipping it either. She has a great vocal presence. Her voice is strong and full of passion and emotion. She knows exactly where she wants each line to land.

I kept trying to focus on the production, but I ended up circling back to her delivery every time. She doesn’t rush into big moments. She holds back, then lets a note stretch just enough to make you feel it. Like she’s choosing her spots carefully.

The writing is honest and I actually paused the song and went back a few seconds, just to hear a line again. There’s also this small shift in the background halfway through. nothing huge. just a slight change in how everything sits. It gave the song a different weight for a moment. I liked that. It didn’t overdo it.

I didn’t walk away from this thinking about hooks or replay value. It was more like… it stayed in the room a bit after it ended. I respect that. I really want to hear what she does next, just to see if she keeps it this honest.
