Varshana – Mystic Ringing

Varshana just landed on my radar with her amazing new single “Mystic Ringing”. I put it on last night without really expecting that groove to stick the way it did. It’s got that easy reggae bounce, but it doesn’t feel lazy or background. It keeps pulling you back in, especially once the chorus lands.

I really like how everything sits together. The beat is steady, the melody is catchy and the instrumental has small details that keep showing up the more you listen. There’s a moment where the harmonica slips in and it kind of changes the mood. Same with the horns, they don’t try to take over, they just add color and then step back.

The lyrics are simple enough to stick. Varshana’s voice is what carries this song. It’s just confident and attractive. She knows where the melody is going and stays right in that pocket. The chorus is the part that stayed with me the most. I caught myself replaying it once the song ended which usually says everything.

She is one of the best artists I’ve discovered in the last few months. I ended up playing her new single a few more times than I planned. It’s one of those tracks that doesn’t ask for much, but kind of wins you over anyway. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on what she does next.
