Joho – numbness is exhausting

I just dsicovered this amazing artist Joho and his new release “numbness is exhausting”. This album didn’t hit me all at once. It kind of unfolded slowly, track by track, like it needed a bit of time before everything made sense.

“Because” starts things on a light note, easy to get into, but it doesn’t stay there for long. “Sometimes.1” comes in, the tone shifts. The writing is more open and Joho’s voice sits right in that space perfectly.

I kept going back to “Amore”. There’s something about how the hook sticks, but it’s the feeling behind it that stays longer. Then “Sometimes.2” flips things a bit with rougher edges, less polished, but in a good way. It sounds like he let things be instead of cleaning them up too much.

“If You’re Alright (Dancin’)” brings a different kind of energy. The beat moves more, but he still keeps that same tone in his voice which ties it back to the rest of the album. “Come See About Me” has one of those choruses that just sits in your head without asking.

“Valentine” caught me off guard. Guitars come in heavier, drums hit harder and the whole thing feels bigger. It doesn’t sound like a random switch though, it fits the mood he’s been building. “Iron Giant” closes it in a complete way. The added female vocals gave it a nice lift, like a final breath after everything that came before.

I really like how Joho moves between styles without losing himself. It’s not too polished and I think that’s why I kept listening. It’s real, a bit messy at times, but honest in a way that stuck with me after it ended. I’ll keep this artist on my radar!
