Paper Crown – Four Leaf Clover

Some songs are built for long drives with the window slightly open. “Four Leaf Clover” by Paper Crown landed in that category for me almost immediately. It’s like a hidden gem I’ve just discovered.

The song carries a mix of pop and rock but it doesn’t sound boxed into either side. The guitars bring a steady push through the song while the drums keep everything moving in good way. There’s a nice balance here. The instruments are rich and nothing sounds packed or overloaded.

Johanne Kippersund’s voice is what kept me locked in. She sings with a calm tone that somehow still carries energy. It’s soothing in one moment then a little stronger the next. It’s like the song slowly opens as it goes. I liked that contrast. It keeps the song interesting from first to last second.

The chorus!! That part really clicked for me. The melody is strong and very catchy. It sticks after one listen. You may catch yourself replaying it a couple of times because it just works. Some choruses take time to grow on you but this one hits quickly. The guitar work deserves a mention here. It adds texture throughout the song. Sometimes leading the way and sometimes just supporting the vocal line.

Paper Crown knows how to shape a song that is both relaxed and energetic at the same time. It’s unique and leaves an impression. For me, this song turned into one of those songs I kept replaying without really planning to. That’s always a good sign. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on what this duo does next.
