D3PRT – TEN

D3PRT caught my attention last month with a track called “You Will Never Know” and I remember thinking the guy had a very special sound. Now he’s back with “TEN” and honestly it sounds like he’s pushing that direction even further.

The track sits in that heavier 140 (BPM) zone where breakbeats and dubstep low-end collide. It’s not messy at all and everything is controlled. The drums do most of the talking here. Chopped breaks that hit hard and keep the track moving in a great way. No simple groove and that’s exactly why it stays interesting.

There’s also a rough MC vocal sample woven through the beat. It pops in at just the right moments and gives the track a bit of attitude. The timing of those vocal cuts is sharp and almost like another percussion layer. The atmosphere is something I’ve started to expect from D3PRT. His music always carries a darker tone. The kind that is built for late hours and dim rooms. I love his underground energy where the focus stays on rhythm and mood.

The production is polished and he knows what he’s doing. The bass hits deep without swallowing the rest of the mix and the drums stay punchy all the way through. Every element was placed carefully.

What keeps me coming back to his work is the sense that he’s not chasing trends. He just builds his own sound and lets it speak. So after hearing this one. I’m even more convinced this UK producer is onto something special. I’ll definitely keep watching what he releases next.
