CATSINGTON just dropped a new single called “many gears ago” and I ended up playing it more times than I expected. The first thing that caught my ear was the guitar. It has that slightly dusty lo-fi tone that gives the track a relaxed mood right away. Not flashy. Just a steady line that carries the whole song forward while the melody slides in on top of it. After one listen I already had that melody stuck in my head.
The band has a mellow pop direction here and it works. The rhythm section keeps things moving. Guitar and drums sit in the background but still give the track a nice shape. It’s tight and carefully arranged which says a lot about how comfortable the band seems with this style.
The vocals fit the song really well. They move with the music and let the lyrics come through clearly. At the chorus the melody lifts and the voice follows it in a really satisfying way. That moment made me restart the track just to hear it again. I also want to mention the production because it suits this kind of indie sound perfectly. It’s clean and solid. You can tell the band paid attention to the details while still keeping the track easy to listen to.
While writing this review, I had listened to the song three times without noticing. That usually tells me everything I need to know. I honestly enjoyed this song. It’s catchy and easy to come back to. Definitely a band I’ll keep an eye on.
