I just discovered this band and am happy to share it with you. I first played “Don’t Go to Work” without knowing much about Fake Plastic and by the time the chorus came around I already had the hook stuck in my head. That’s usually a good sign. Some songs take time to grow, but this one clicks pretty fast.
The band has a strong rock sound that is confident and well put together. The bassline is one of the first things that grabbed my attention. It gives the whole track a solid backbone. The guitars sit slightly behind it. Adding shape and color. The drums keep things steady and help carry the song forward.
Then the vocals step in and take control of the mood. The voice is clear and rich which makes the lyrics land right away. I caught myself repeating the hook after the second listen because it sticks that quickly. It’s the kind of chorus that shows up in your head again later when you’re not even playing the song.
The theme behind this song is something most people understand. It’s about that push and pull between what you feel you should do and what you actually want to do. That tension sits right in the middle of the track and the band builds the whole song around it in a simple but effective way.
I really like how tight the band sounds. You can tell Fake Plastic know what they’re doing. The melodies are memorable, the playing is sharp and the whole track us carefully shaped without losing its energy.
I feel like I have discovered a band that takes their songwriting seriously but still knows how to keep things engaging. This is the kind of song that stays with you long after it ends.
