MASHA. – Gold Guns Girls

I’ve been listening to Metric for close to twenty years, so their song “Gold Guns Girls” carries a lot of memories for me. Long drives and old playlists. When I saw MASHA. take it on, I honestly braced myself. This isn’t an easy one to cover. It needs bite, speed, and control all at once. She pulls it off.

The track hits with that same restless push I remember, but it doesn’t feel like dress-up. Her voice has a firmer edge, a slightly darker shade and she leans into that instead of chasing the original tone. The delivery is committed, not cautious. When the chorus lands, it lifts without sounding forced, just strong and steady, like she trusts the song to do its job.

The band behind her is amazing. The guitars have weight. The drums keep everything moving forward. and the whole mix is clean. You can tell time was spent getting the details right. It fills the room in a satisfying way, especially with great speakers.

I love that she keeps the urgency but makes the atmosphere her own. It’s familiar and new at the same time which is probably the hardest balance to get right with a cover like this. Honestly, I didn’t expect to like it this much. But I do – a lot. If this is the direction she’s heading, I’m definitely excited about what she does next.
