Derby Hill – Derby Hill EP

There’s something comforting about putting on Derby Hill’s self-titled EP and just letting it play. It’s like sitting on a back porch as the light fades, not saying much, just listening. Derby Hill has a great Americana sound that blends folk, country and a bit of roots rock and it suits him. He has one of the richest voices we’ve ever heard and his presence holds the whole record together.

The EP opens with “Restless and Forgiven” and it sets the tone right away. It’s peaceful but still has a quiet drive to it. The melody sticks after the first listen and the acoustic work gives it that open-road feeling. “Red Honey Wine” slows things down in a good way. It’s soft and warm. built around simple and honest lines. I caught myself replaying it just to sit with the chorus a little longer.

“Come Back Home” is the one that hit me hardest. There’s a real ache in his delivery and the harmonies lift the song without making it heavy. It’s personal, like something written late at night at the kitchen table. “Anything’s Possible Here” keeps that warmth going. The harmonies shine again and the melody is easy to hold onto. Just good songwriting and a sound that feels lived-in. “In a Matter of Moments” closes the EP on a catchy note. It’s a solid Americana tune with a soft touch and great vocals. I loved how the lyrics and melody move together here. It wraps things up without overdoing it.

This EP is an easy listen in the best way. The acoustic arrangements, the steady production and his great performance make it feel real. For me, Derby Hill’s EP is a quiet reminder that simple songs when they’re honest, can mean a lot. I’ll be coming back to this one.
