I’ve written about Energy Whores before, so I had a feeling I knew what I was getting into with their new release “Arsenal of Democracy”. Still, this album caught me off guard in the best way. It’s 10 tracks, but it doesn’t feel long. I pressed play in the afternoon, planning to check out a couple songs and next thing I knew the record was over and I was sitting there thinking. It moves fast, but not rushed. You just get pulled in.
The band’s style sits somewhere between electro-pop, art rock and something a little rebellious. The synths drive a lot of the mood here. They’re sharp, sometimes cold, sometimes almost playful, but always purposeful. There’s a steady groove running through most of the album, and those pop melodies stick in your head in no time. I caught myself humming one of the hooks while making coffee which is usually a good sign.
The vocal performances feel committed. You can hear the intent behind every line. She doesn’t soften the message, but she also doesn’t shout just to make a point. It’s controlled and focused. The DIY side of this project makes it even more impressive. Every beat and every layer were designed with care. It proves how skilled they are without needing a big studio shine.
I love the atmosphere they create. There’s tension in the themes. Power, control, all the chaos around us, but the music still has energy that keeps you engaged. It’s serious, but you can still move to it. That balance is not easy to pull off.
I honestly enjoyed every minute of this album. Energy Whores have a sound that doesn’t blend into the crowd and I respect that a lot. For me, this is one of those records you put on thinking you’ll sample it and instead you end up staying for the whole ride.
ABOUT THE BAND:

Energy Whores is a New York–based band that blends art rock, electronic, pop, and folk into a genre defying sound. Their lyrics take aim at corruption, greed, consumerism, and authoritarianism, subjects rarely touched in today’s mainstream pop landscape. With bold visuals, unapologetic themes, and genre bending production, Energy Whores are redefining what it means for music to be both political and electrifying.
