Ralph Champagne Revue takes a playful but well-planned approach on his new holiday EP “Grinch” and it works better than I expected. This five-track release feels loose and fun on the surface but there’s real care behind every choice. It’s the kind of record you can enjoy straight through without feeling the urge to skip around.
Ralph’s style sits comfortably between classic holiday themes and something a little more daring. His voice is surprising and the melodies stick in your head after your first listen. The featured artists bring extra spark to the project. They added a great variety and kept the sound fresh from track to track. Each song has its own mood which helps the EP feel complete instead of repetitive. The music itself is full and lively with arrangements that keep things interesting and busy. You can hear that attention was paid to balance to let each part of the song have its moment.
Honestly, I had a great time with this EP. It’s enjoyable, easy to reply and different from a lot of holiday releases floating around right now. Ralph Champagne Revue delivered something that feels thoughtful and fun at the same time and I’ll definitely be coming back to it again during the season.
