Billy Bobak – Billy Wakes Up

Billy Bobak’s debut album “Billy Wakes Up” is like a refreshing burst of color in a gray season. You can sense how much time and care went into crafting these songs, they’re melodic, thoughtful and packed with emotion. His influences from The Beatles, Blur and Bowie come through in great ways, especially in the songwriting and arrangement, but Billy’s sound is completely his own.

Each track feels like a small story, sometimes lively and bright and sometimes nostalgic and reflective. The mix of sounds and styles gives the album real depth. The production is excellent, but what makes it special is that little bit of roughness left in, it keeps the music honest and real. His voice carries warmth and his lyrics have that mix of heart and self-awareness that pulls you in.

I really loved listening to this record. It feels like the perfect record for this time of year. It’s catchy enough to lift your mood but grounded enough to make you think. There’s energy, melody and soul all running through it. I can’t wait to see what Billy does next, because this debut already feels like something special.
