Block just landed on my radar with his new album, “Whitecaps On The Hudson” and it feels like a personal letter from a time when everything shifted like the weather, relationships and even who you are. With his rich and expressive voice, Block carries each lyric with sincerity which makes the melodies both beautiful and hard to forget. This deluxe edition breathes new life into this 2013 gem with three bonus tracks.
The production is clean and lets the storytelling take center stage. I especially enjoyed the care in the instrumentation, it’s simple but intentional with every note feeling like it belongs. There’s no fluff here, just strong songwriting and real emotion. “Expansion Draft” and “Black Eyes Susan” are my favorites here, they are clever, heartfelt and quietly powerful. Honestly, I loved the whole album. It’s the kind of record that stays with you after it ends. Block’s voice and delivery feel timeless and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for what he does next.
