LunaRover just landed on my radar recently with their debut single, “Chimera” and I’m super excited about it. It’s a refreshing dive into synthesizer-driven alt-pop that effortlessly bridges nostalgia and innovation. Drawing inspiration from iconic 80s bands like Duran Duran and Tears for Fears, which are my favorites, too, the song weaves lush synth tones with modern influences reminiscent of St. Vincent and Alabama Shakes. The result is a track that feels both timeless and modern.
This song immediately grabs you with its rich instrumentation and captivating vocals and you’ll find yourself playing it on repeat. The drum work is great and the sax adds the most perfect touch we could ever ask for. Production and mixing are nothing short of excellent, with a warm and polished atmosphere that only adds to the emotion of the poignant lyrics. The song explores themes of failed relationships and self discovery and as such is inviting to introspection while still being catchy and easy to listen to.
Ben Pelletier and Kevin Rieth are the two talented artists behind the project LunaRover which is a promising force in the music scene. Bold sonic experimentation is a result of their DIY production approach. I really enjoyed listening to every second and I love how it’s both calming and captivating. It’s a beautifully crafted song and the melodies will get stuck in your head for sure. This is a high bar for a debut and I can’t wait to see what LunaRover does next.
