Noah Smith’s “Cavaliers into Cadillacs” is a six track EP that is full of passion, clean production, and storytelling. The EP was recorded in a home studio in Cincinnati with live takes, which gives it a very live feel like you are listening to a live performance. Smith’s voice is one of the richest I’ve heard this year, he sings professionally, emotionally, and makes the songs unforgettable.
The first song of the EP, “Don’t Break My Fall” is a very emotional song, and “Skinny Pedal on the Right” is a perfect example of the combination of youthful reminiscence and liberation. “Secondhand Heartbreak” is a lovely ballad with acoustic guitar and heartfelt lyrics, while “Right Here With You” is more of a rock song with strong vocals and a great band backing. The final two tracks “How The Hell Am I Still Alive” and “Diamonds in the Rough” provide a balance of introspection and toughness, and the EP ends on a note that makes people want to listen to it again.
The inclusion of such great songwriters like Blue Foley and Sinead Burgess enriches the EP with a country-rock sound that is both familiar and creative. Honestly, I found myself drawn to the honesty and versatility of this project. Smith has a great talent for reaching out to his audience through his music and I am looking forward to seeing more of him. If you have not listened to “Cavaliers into Cadillacs” yet, you should do it right away.
