Laura Lucas – Melbourne

We can’t get enough of this beautiful masterpiece “Melbourne” by Canadian singer-songwriter Laura Lucas. The minute we heard this song we fell in love with it and couldn’t get it out of our heads! “Melbourne” is the third and final single to be released ahead of Laura Lucas’ debut EP “Light the Candle, Hold the Mirror.” The song was written as a goodbye (or rather, see you soon) letter to the city of Melbourne after Laura spent a highly transformative year living there. The lyrics were born out of nostalgia for the life that Laura built in Melbourne and the hope to one day return. Her lyrical prophecy came true, as Laura moved back to her favourite city, Melbourne, in January 2022. Laura has one of the catchiest and most beautiful voices we’ve ever heard and her performance on this record is on another level. The vocal melodies are beautifully catchy and mesh perfectly with the lyrics. The production of this song is creative, smart and brought this song to a whole new level. Laura Lucas is a professional artist and has so much talent when it comes to songwriting. Her music is honest, beautiful and sets her apart from the crowd. This is one of the best songs we’ve heard in months and we hope you love it as much as we do!

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Canadian born, Australian based singer-songwriter and poet Laura Lucas fell in love with storytelling from a young age. Her introspective songwriting is charmingly delivered by delicate vocals and dreamy instrumentation rooted in a warm, modern take on the indie-folk genre. Laura’s ability to captivate listeners and distill complex emotions through song has earned her comparisons to the likes of Lana Del Rey, Phoebe Bridgers, and Taylor Swift.

Occasionally, her two disciplines merge, such as with poem-turned-song Moon Dream, which UK based blog For the Rabbits described as “a luxurious slice of alt-folk, a tapestry of rich vocal harmonies.” Laura’s work as a poet is “something that shines through in her lyrics and adds another layer of creativity to her songs” (Buzz Music). Her poetry has appeared in various publications such as About Place Journal, Press 53, Iris Literary Journal, and elsewhere.

Lost and Found, the first single from Laura’s debut EP, is about finding yourself in a city that feels like home for the first time. The full EP Light the Candle, Hold the Mirror, which was recorded entirely remotely between Canada and Australia with producer Garrett Kato (Ziggy Alberts, Kyle Lionhart), is set for release in early 2022.
