Austin says on the track, “‘Not Ready’ was heavily inspired by Crosby Stills and Nash. When I first wrote it and showed it to my boyfriend, I told him I thought it was the worst song I’d ever written and that I was prepared to toss it in the trash. He strongly insisted otherwise. I decided to trust him. I’m sure as hell glad I did. I started fearing death for the first time last year. Very much not like me to be honest. I’ve always happily welcomed death with overly open arms. So I figured it was progress that I now feared it. I felt the need to write about it. I don’t by any means see myself as some sort of mental health warrior for listeners. I still struggle constantly. Even now, this song is a bit dated for myself at the moment. So if people resonate with it, cool. But ultimately I wrote it for myself.
