ABOUT THE ARTIST:
How far would you go to chase your dreams? Barcelona-native, 21-year-old Jay Blanes started 2019 by calling Los Angeles his new home.
At a very young age, Jay was convinced by his grandmother to take a few piano lessons to continue her passion for music. During a music summer camp, 13-year-old Blanes found his two new found loves: the guitar and songwriting. What was to come no one could imagine.
In 2012, he created his YouTube channel sharing his talent with the world from covers to originals. An eclectic collection of collaborations, Jay, garnered several thousand views and subscribers within a year.
The struggle to make it big took a turn in Blanes’ life as he shifted gears towards a degree in business administration. His dreams of becoming an artist began to slip away.
Fast forward two years later at an Ed Sheeran concert, the spark began to ignite again as he witnessed the energy Sheeran brought to the stage with just his guitar and voice. That summer music engulfed everything he did, writing and producing what would become his debut EP.
A one-person show, Jay, recorded and sounded engineered both instrumentals and vocals. The artist on-the-rise even later directed, produced and edited his debut music video for “Trust.”
One year after the concert that changed Blanes’ life, he released his debut EP “Found in April.” The five-track album encompasses love, loss and authenticity that he effortlessly brings to life lyrically and musically.
Relentless gigging around Europe, while balancing a business internship back home, he began to build a fanbase and pushed himself to make his mark across the pond.
Through an exchange student program to USC, Blanes studied business and music industry. He was a regular performer on the Santa Monica Pier.
