Strandels – Talking To The Moon

Swedish sibling duo Strandels shared with us their new single “Talking To The Moon,” and upon hearing it for the first we got hooked immediately. Their vocals are charming and pure and the chorus is so beautiful. The lyrics are catchy and the melody of this record is a piece of art. Wow, this song was definitely a great experience for our team and we don’t really mind keeping listening to it all day long without getting bored at all.

WHAT THE DUO SAYS ABOUT THIS SONG:

”’Talking To The Moon’ is about all your inner demons that you’re always struggle with. In our case it’s about not feeling comfortable with opening up fully to a real person, so you turn to the moon (like a metaphor of talking to nothingness) and that you never get an answer”

ABOUT THE DUO:

Strandels have come to represent a fresh and organic take on the Swedish pop world. Comprised of siblings Tova and Sixten Strandell, the duo has quickly forged a musical agenda inspired by musical authenticity and the empowerment of traditional pop hallmarks. Uninspired by the buzz sounds of their generation, their mantra that a strong voice and a timeless melody can inspire for centuries continues to stand at the forefront of the Strandels sound.

For Sixten, music began as an academic plight, with vigorous training and influences such as James Dean pushing the young Swede towards the pursuit of studio sessions alongside friends. Finding her own feet through school performances and a little encouragement from her brother, Tova’s flower child aura and velvety vocal assets proved an essential piece of the puzzle for an act now fast becoming one of Sweden’s most sought-after newcomer acts. ‘I don’t think we ever had eyes for the act that we have become in the beginning,’ explains Sixten. ‘For us, the process happened organically. We both had our own early ambitions but by the time it came to forming Strandels the pieces just seemed to align perfectly.’

Their moment of clarity came courtesy of Chance of Rain, the acts debut EP released via Record Company TEN in 2016. Channeling Tove’s love for nature alongside the organic instrumental values of their simple yet sophisticated setup, the EP offered a cohesive introduction to the Strandels’ sound, garnering the act more than one millions collective streams globally. For Tova and Sixten, it was an opportunity for the acts ‘organic’ approach to making music to really take center stage. ‘Everything from the creative process to the references to nature throughout the music felt like exactly what we wanted Strandels to stand for from the beginning,’ suggests Tova. ‘The music and subsequent performances meant we could really set the bar for the dynamics and energy of the project. It felt like the perfect start for us.’

The duo’s debut short player asserted Strandels as the promising future sound of Swedish songmanship. Garnering a spot on national TV show Nyhetsmoron and at Skansen’s New Year’s Eve event, Tova and Sixten went on to make their debut UK performances at The Social and Brighton’s coveted Great Escape Festival. With the release of their latest single, ‘If God Has A Plan,’ and the duo’s completed summer tour in Sweden in support of Per Gessle, their dynamic brand of pop with a pinch of flower power spirit looks set to take a new global spotlight over the months to come.
