The Canadian Singer-Songwriter Jen Kalichran released a new catchy song last week titled “Medusa”, and we immediately hooked by her charming voice and her passion and of course the catchy lyrics. To be honest Jen Kalichran really brings out a new level of songwriting and vocal prowess that you will never find in other artists.
WHAT SHE SAYS ABOUT THIS SONG:
‘ I was initially inspired by the trumpet top line that carries the song. When I first heard the track, it instantly took me to a place where I thought of snakes, and snake charming. I envisioned snakes moving, which led me to remember the story of Medusa and that she had venomous snakes for hair. I read so many articles and interpretations of Medusa, and I felt nothing but sympathy for this character, and this feeling sparked something within me to tell my own interpretation of it. The story of Medusa has underlying themes that really resonated with me; It is still a relevant story of jealousy, power, control and betrayal. After reading about Medusa, even though this story is a myth, I felt as if I owed it to this character to set her story straight, and that she wasn’t the monster everyone saw her to be. ‘
