It’s a beautiful Tuesday morning and to get things started we have this new collaborative from the Zimbabwean and South African artists Slow Jack and Tatenda wekwaTenzi titled ‘Wolf at Night’. This song was created for International Women’s Day and released on September 10. The original and unique melodies create a warm energy, and the vocal performance is something you can’t ignore. Enjoy!
ABOUT THE SONG AND THE ARTISTS:
‘Wolf at Night’ is a female-empowering anthem, dripping in divinity that every womxn around the world can relate to.
This first-time collaboration between Jayme Van Tonder, from the smash-hit South African band Slow Jack, and Shona songstress Tatenda wekwaTenzi exhibits a diverse range and electric, yet organic vibration that could only hail from Southern Africa’s Rainbow Nation. Even with the first verse in Shona, Tatenda’s native tongue, and the remainder of the song in English – the second language of both artists, you’ll find yourself instantly connected to a soulful spirit, and commanding vocal prowess that has you singing along in no time. The two artists, both living in Cape Town, South Africa were brought together to create this track by Various Roots, as a part of their Heritage of Queendom campaign promoting talented female artists from Southern Africa.
This African Pop-Rock hit was composed by the Slow Jack band (of Afrikaans, South African descent), with Tatenda wekwaTenzi (Shona, Zimbabwean descent) on the marimba.
Shona lyrics were written by Tatenda wekwaTenzi, and the English lyrics were written by Hannes Muller (Slow Jack) and Andrew McDermott (Various Roots) as an ode to the power & unstoppable life-force of their female partners – being fierce and assertive like ‘a wolf at night,’ with the unrelenting determination of being ‘a woman on a roll.’
