Talented singer-songwriter Ray Duncan just landed on my radar with her new EP “Laundromat” a heartfelt and electrifying collection that captures the struggles and dreams of working-class life through raw storytelling and passionate performances. Across five songs, she blends indie rock, Americana and soulful influences to deliver songs that are both deeply personal and honest.
The EP kicks off with “Waitress” a gritty anthem that paints a vivid picture of service industry life. The title track is a beautiful experience from start to finish, enriched by Lexi Jackson’s saxophone and flute and will directly lead you to the masterpiece “Underneath” a song that has beautiful energy, nice variety and solid production. The lead single “Used To It” showcases her powerful, soaring vocals over driving guitars and rich organ swells. Each song is built on strong melodies, compelling lyrics, and an undeniable emotional depth.
Duncan’s voice is one of the richest and most charming I’ve heard, carrying the weight of each story she tells. “Laundromat” is a stunning EP and I truly believe her music deserves much more attention. She is a special artist with a special talent and a special voice.
