“Momento Mori” by Chellcy Reitsma is an unforgettable and well-produced album that will stay with the listener. This is the first half of a two-part concept album that focuses on the themes of death, loss and life’s impermanence, offering listeners a poignant reflection on embracing life’s fragility. Chellcy’s music is a mix of Classic Rock, Alt-Rock and Americana and each song is like a chapter in an intricate story with a dark, moody atmosphere.
The album showcases a remarkable variety and it is very easy to go from acoustic comfort to the raw energy of rock music. Chellcy’s has one of the best and most powerful voices I’ve ever heard this year. Ranging from soft and emotional to powerful and commanding, her voice is a piece of art and full of character. The production is polished and professional with excellent mixing and mastering that let the dark yet soulful atmosphere shine. Instrumentally, it’s just as impressive, with rich guitars, dynamic drums and haunting melodies that linger in the mind after each song ends.
What strikes me most is that “Momento Mori” is an experience, a rather haunting one but uplifting at its core. It’s a testament to Chellcy’s artistry and vocal abilities. This album deserves far more attention and I am looking forward to the second part of this work, “Carpe Diem” in 2025. For now, “Momento Mori” is a must-listen that will resonate deeply with your soul.
