It’s not every day that you stumble upon an artist whose music draws you in completely, but that is what happened when I listened to Shawn Brown’s “Into the Furious Light” EP. For someone who has been listening to a lot of acoustic rock lately, this EP felt like a hidden gem waiting to be uncovered. After listening to this EP just once, I went on to explore all of Brown’s previous releases, and let me tell you, the man has a true talent got some serious musical skills.
The EP starts with the song “Hold Fast” a track that feels like a journey in itself. It starts with beautiful acoustic guitar riffs creating an upbeat and welcoming mood. Then, Brown’s voice enters, and you can’t help but be captivated. Let me say it, he has one of the best and most captivating voices I’ve ever heard in my life. Once the track starts to move to the chorus, you’re hooked by its powerful rock vibe. The songwriting is stunning with melodies that stick with you long after the song ends. The recording and especially the mastering could not be more professional matching the passion of Brown’s vocals with the rhythm and energy of the instruments. It is a song that makes you want to listen more and makes you look forward to what’s to come.
The second song, “Let Them Love Ya” shifts gears into a more emotional realm. By listening to its haunting tune and rhythm and simple instrumentation of acoustic guitars, the song creates an intimate and heartfelt experience. Brown’s singing is touching and emotional and it is hard not to get teary-eyed at some point. The lyrics are incredibly honest and deeply moving. It is one of those songs that catches you and offers a comforting vulnerability that’s rare to find.
The EP ends with a well-polished song called “The Sad Ones (Acoustic Version)” a beautifully crafted piece that underscores Brown’s exceptional vocal talent and songwriting ability. The production is clean and simple, allowing the heartfelt lyrics and emotional depth of his voice to shine through.
Overall, this EP is a remarkable collection of songs that showcases Shawn Brown’s versatility and talent. From the rock energy of “Hold Fast” to the emotional resonance of “Let Them Love Ya” and “The Sad Ones” there’s something for everyone in this EP. I have a huge respect for Brown whose ability to switch between genres yet stay consistent with his style impresses me. His music feels alive, soulful and honest and I can’t wait to see where his career takes him next.
