ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Noak Hellsing is a 20-year-old from Stockholm who has made a significant mark on the Swedish pop scene lately. With songs like Lost (2019), Good Enough (2020), and No Love (2020), Noak has a repertoire of over 28 million streams – an impressive number for someone still at the beginning of his career. But given Noak’s background, it’s hardly surprising that he has a knack for crafting pop songs for the big masses. He is, more or less, raised with the guitar in his arms.
“I grew up in a musical home and, thanks to my father, I started playing the guitar when I was only five years old. After a while, I started singing and playing the piano too. I have my father to thank for my interest in music. He has supported me since day one.”
Noak eventually started writing songs of his own, both influenced by modern pop vocalists and older music, saying he has always had a greater interest in songs than genres. In his music, it has therefore always felt natural for him to mix these expressions, without deviating from what he considers his sound.
“I mainly write about things I have experienced, but also about things in my surroundings. I want my music to be recognizable, and that is the general starting point. For me, melodic language and sound are just as important as the lyrics. And when it comes to lyrics I tend to dig in relationships. Not necessarily romantic relationships but all kinds of relationships.”
Noak is enthusiastic when he talks about his music. He has big plans for his future and is careful not to limit himself – be it in terms of his lyrics or musical curiosity. And even if the songs rest on a solid foundation of pop, the most important thing for Noak is that the music makes room for the lyrics and stories he wants to tell.
“Writing songs for me is sometimes just a pure expression of my passion for music. Other times it’s more of a therapy session. I vent various feelings and experiences I have – or topics that are close to my heart. Then I turn them into pop songs that hopefully many others can relate to. The dream is that people all over the world will listen to my music and recognize themselves. That it will make life a little easier in the more difficult moments.”
Noak Hellsing is undeniably going somewhere, and fast. With Lost, he showed proof of his incredible singing capacity for the first time, but also his ability as a songwriter – something that the number of streams on the song testifies to. Since then, Noak has shown new sides of himself with every new release. And this spring we will, once again, get the chance to witness Noak’s artistic evolution with the release of new singles and an EP. No one knows for certain what Noak has cooked up this time, but if you interpret the titles correctly, everything indicates that he is ready to explore yet another side of his inner self. In true Noak Hellsing spirit, in other words.
In addition to his solo project, Noak, as a songwriter, has collaborated with creators such as Aldae, Erik Hassle, Corey Sanders, LIOHN, Siba, Tep No, Michael Calfan, and NCT Dream. And currently, he has ongoing projects with DJ Snake, Armin Van Buuren, Punctual, and Toby Romeo.
