Matt McKnzi – Coming Down

Matt McKnzi left us stuck on constant repeat with his catchy single “Coming Down” which is one of the best songs we’ve ever heard. We enjoy listening to this record until the last second every time we play it. The atmosphere of this song is unique and the vocal production is creative, smart and brought this song to a whole new level. The lyrics are honest, beautifully written and mesh perfectly with the vocal melodies. Matt McKnzi is a professional singer and his music is original and sets him apart from the crowd. This song is a great experience from start to finish! We hope you love it as much as we do!

WHAT THE ARTIST SAYS ABOUT THIS SONG:

“I wrote this song about the addictive highs and lows of a toxic relationship– How you can’t breathe without the other person, but at the same time they’re smothering you. This song is about extremes and it highlights co-dependency at its darkest.”

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Music has, and always will be my greatest escape. At a very young age I discovered that music would never let me down. It was predictable. The catchy and repetitive hooks of pop & r&b felt like home— I knew what was coming, and I was satisfied when it got there.

My dad bought me my first keyboard and from that moment on it was off to the races. I discovered that reading music was difficult for me, so I taught myself how to play melodies and chords by ear. The first song I learned how to play was the 5 note alien theme song from Steven Spielberg’s ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind.’ This was the song the aliens used to tell humanity that they have “come in peace.”

As I got older I fell in love with the stage. So at the end of high school I started auditioning at colleges for musical theatre. And although I didn’t end up pursuing leading roles on Broadway, college theatre was where I was given the tools to become an authentic performer. This skill set has carried over into my songwriting in ways I never could have imagined. I will forever be grateful for my years as an MT! (Musical Theatre Major!)

Just like any great actor in any compelling role, drug and alcohol abuse plagued my career. My life took a slight detour for a little while there. I didn’t know who I was supposed to be, or what I was supposed to do. I looked out into the world and couldn’t understand why I felt so alone. It would be a long, dark, winding road before I started actually releasing my own music. Tons of life lessons had to be learned before I could even write a song with any substance. But I made it through.

Today my drive to create and write music is unlike anything I’ve ever felt. It’s the closest thing to magic that exists for me. I will continue to make music, whether the money comes or doesn’t come. Good songs will come, bad songs will come- it doesn’t matter. It’s the journey that I’ve fallen in love with, not the destination.
