Canadian-born indie-folk singer-songwriter and poet Laura Lucas left us stuck on repeat with her first single “Lost and Found” of her debut EP “Light the Candle, Hold the Mirror”. This song is about finding yourself in a city that truly feels like home for the first time. For Laura, that city was Melbourne. The minute we heard Laura’s voice we fall in love with it and we couldn’t get it out of our heads! She has one of the purest and most charming voices we’ve heard in months and her performance in this song was more than professional. The atmosphere is unique, the melody is very catchy and the lyrics are original and beautifully written. The production of this song and Laura’s voice mesh together perfectly which allows the melody to sparkle. We hope you love this song as much as we do!
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Canadian-born indie-folk singer-songwriter and poet Laura Lucas rediscovered her passion for songwriting while spending a year living in Melbourne, Australia in 2019. After years of writing songs for no one but herself to hear, Laura decided on a whim to record some of them with producer Garrett Kato (Ziggy Alberts, Jack Botts) in his Byron Bay studio. From these recordings came Laura’s debut single “Poetry” in 2019, as well as “Big Questions” and “Moon Dream,” the latter being described by For the Rabbits as “a luxurious slice of alt-folk, a tapestry of rich vocal harmonies.”
As a poet herself, Laura is inspired by thoughtful lyricists such as Leonard Cohen and Lana Del Rey. Laura’s poetry has appeared in multiple online and print publications, such as Press 53, Burnt Pine Magazine, Snapdragon: A Journal of Art and Healing, and elsewhere. Laura’s work as a poet is “something that shines through in her lyrics and adds another layer of creativity to her songs” (Buzz Music).
Laura’s debut EP “Light the Candle, Hold the Mirror” will be released in early 2022.
