The Nigerian Hip-Hop/Rap artist JTK shared with us his new song “No Be Mouth, “ feat. Tunji. We really enjoyed it and we have listened to it millions of times before decided to share it with you dear music fan. Their singing is professional, rich and very harmonious with the rhythm. The lyrics are well written, and we really can see that JTK has a talent in writing. We really love his catchy performance and rich voice and we can’t wait to see what next.
WHAT THE ARTIST SAYS ABOUT THIS SONG:
“Two Nigerians abroad made a song for their homeland, about returning to their childhood city, Lagos, Nigeria.
“No Be Mouth” simply means “No Bragging”. It’s a phrase from the Nigerian English creole that anyone in the country will recognize and identify with upon hearing. In this song, we’re kinda saying that we’re bosses, not bragging, we’ve ben in diaspora, we’ve made some reputation, and we’ll head back home and f things up, but we’re not bragging.
As someone who’s been away from home in Canada for many years, it felt satisfying for me to jump on a track like this to connect with a unique audience that loves Afrobeat and hip-hop. We took our native creole, a fundamental element of Nigerian afrobeat, and fused it perfectly with a banging hip-hop beat, and yet still made it understandable to a typical English listener.. Every Nigerian or African who understands some of what we’re saying, especially those who are in diaspora, will definitely understand what it feels like to just want to visit home after being away for a while.
Who knows, there might or might not be enough people here who appreciate international hip-hop, but in our motherland, there are about 200 million people who we feel will resonate with this. Tunji and I both live in Canada right now, and we just thought we’d give this song a shot, promoting it in a foreign land.”
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
For me, music is a way of translating my emotions into words and sounds. I always try to transfer my emotions to my listeners and overwhelm them with it, hence “kill them. That’s why I chose “Josh the Killer” as my moniker. I know it perksears — Some people even think it relates to me being agressive, voilent, or trying to be gangster, etc. It’s just a name. There’s a rock band called “The Killers”, right? Oh well! — JTK
Born in Lagos Nigeria, JTK moved to Canada for higher education in 2013. While in college, he consistently released singles and covers to keep his college audience engaged. Since then, he’s honed his skills and perfected his craft and is now ready to take on the world.
